Alarms & Paging FAQs
Q: Why does the alarm state persist after it's been acknowleged and the processing interval has passed?
A: The alarm criteria are evaluated on each report and at each interval. If the specified condition is still being met, then the alarm state is still in effect. For example, if an inch of rain in a hour will trigger an alarm and an inch falls in 15 minutes - that alarm state will persist for another 45 minutes even though it has been acknowledged.
Q: Why don't my sound files play when an alarm is triggered?
A: Any of the following conditions will cause this problem:
- Alarms are not turned on in the Tasks Menu Alarm
- Sound Duration in the System Configuration dialog is set to zero
- The alarm is not turned on in the "Status Setting" box on the Sensor Tab of the Site and Sensor Setup dialog
- The "Time Base" value on the Alarm Tab for the sensor is set to zero
Q: How do I configure my email to work with alarm notification?
A: First go to the System Configuration Dialog and add the user email to the Local Email User field under Paging. Type in the password for that user in the Password field. Click on the Save button to save the new configuration to the database. When you have an alarm that you wish to go out by email, fill out the Email Address and Message fields under the Alarms tab for the Sensor Definition Dialog. The email address is the address you wish to send the message (in the Message field) to.
Q: I have a dial-up ISP but also need to do paging. Can this be done?
A: Yes, but you will need two modems. One that is dedicated to your ISP (DIADvisor FTP sessions remain connected) and the other will be used by your paging system.
