Creating Maps for DIADvisor in ArcView

Step by step instructions for creating maps in ArcView:
  1. Open a new ArcView project.
  2. Make sure your data is in decimal degrees, if not use the projection utility to "unproject" your data to decimal degrees.
  3. Add all your data layers (themes) to a View (Figure 1).
  4. Set your color and line properties for each theme.
  5. Zoom to the appropriate extent.
  6. Create a new polygon theme and add a rectangular polygon to this theme with the same extent as the view and shade it black (Figure 1).  As you create this polygon note the coordinates of the bottom-left and top-right corners of the rectangle.  These will be needed in StormWatch to define the background.  Move his theme to the bottom of the theme list.
  7. Use the export function to export the current view to a bitmap image.  Use the highest quality available.
  8. You could also use a graphics program such as Paintshop Pro to capture an area of the screen.
  9. Or press Alt-PrintScreen to capture the screen to the clipboard.
  10. Use a graphics program to crop the image to the black rectangle extent and reduce the number of colors to 256.
  11. Save the image.
