Database FAQs

Q: I upgraded to MS Office 2000 and can't open my DIADvisor database. What should I do?
A: The swatch2.mdb database is a Microsoft Access 97 file and must be converted. Complete instructions for "Converting your Database" are included in the MS Access on-line help.
Q: Microsoft Access prompts me for a login but does not recognize my username and password.
A: You need to use one of the usernames and passwords defined in the on-line help for the DIADvisor Database.
Q:Once I join the DIADvisor workgroup, why can't I open my other databases as myself?
A: Once you have joined the DIADvisor workgroup, all Access files must be opened with a username and login recognized by the DIADvisor workgroup. You can re-join the default Access workgroup (system.mdw) or add a user to the DIADvisor workgroup that doesn't require a password. Complete instructions for adding database users are included in the on-line help.
Q: I upgraded to MS Access 2000 on my LAN Client and converted my database. Now I can't connect to the host. Why?
A: All LAN clients must use a local database that is the same version of MS Access as the database being used by their host. DIADvisor provides Access 2000 files by default. Access 97 files are available on the CD if you need them. If necessary, you may make a local copy of the host's database for the client to use.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST NOT simply define the host's database as the client's database; the host database will be corrupted and all site and sensor definitions may be deleted!

Q: I upgraded my LAN Host to MS Access 2000 and now my clients can't connect. Why?
A: All LAN clients must use a local database that is the same version of MS Access as the database being used by their host. DIADvisor provides Access 2000 files by default. All clients must also convert their local databases to Access 2000. If they are unable to do this, you may make a local copy of the host's database for the client to use.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST NOT simply define the host's database as the client's database; the host database will be corrupted and all site and sensor definitions may be deleted!

Q Why can't I compact my Microsoft Access database manually?

A: There are several reasons this may happen, including:

Q: Does my LAN Client need to have its own separate database?
A: YES! The LAN Client must have a direct connection to its host's database defined in the Session Setup dialog, but it MUST also have its own local copy of the DIADvisor database defined in the System Configuration dialog.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Although it is possible to have the same database (.mdb) file defined in both places, DO NOT attempt this; the host's database will be corrupted and all site and sensor definitions may be deleted!
