FTP FAQs
Why does my FTP client keep getting an error on downloading map1.exe? ("file or permissions may not exist")
This usually means that the maps are not available on the FTP site. The FTP site administrator needs to set-up a 'maps' subdirectory and place self-extracting executable versions of the maps listed in the MapsDef table. Every DIADvisor system has one map designated as the 'default' map and it is renamed 'map1.exe.' FTP Clients will automatically attempt to download a map of this name if it can not find it locally.
How do I prepare self-extracting maps for an FTP site?
You need to use a file compression utility like WinZip. To enable files to be automatically unpacked without user intervention an inexpensive license is required. For step-by-step instructions please read Preparing FTP Maps With WinZip.
I keep getting a time out error when trying to connect with my FTP client.
This usually means that the FTP Client's connection is slow enough to prevent successful file transfers. There is a 'timeout' parameter which determines the amount of seconds to wait for a file transfer to complete. If timeouts are common, we suggest increasing this parameter from the default of 90 seconds until the timeouts stop occurring. To change the timeout parameter, press the 'Configuration Options' button on the 'DIADvisor FTP Session' dialog and see the 'FTP Transfer Configuration' section.
My FTP Uploader is not working. What's wrong?
Check the settings in the FTP Uploader Configuration dialog box. Determine if anything has changed since the last time the FTP Uploader was working. If you have Logging checked you can use this log is help you find and correct problems.
Try pinging the FTP address you are trying to use. You can do this by going to your DOS or Command prompt and typing, "ping ". Some firewalls are set not to allow pinging. If you type the user name and password If you get an error then you know your connection is not working. At this point you will probably have to call your Network Administrator to determine when the connection will be restored.

What is the difference between an active and a passive FTP connection?
In an active connection the client application specifies the port for data communication whereas in a passive connection the client accepts the server's designation of a data communication port. The correct setting is determined by the actual FTP server software being used. Some servers permit either type of connection and others do not. Talk with your IT department to find out which connection is right for your system. Regardless of the connection type used, however, the host's FTP Uploader and all of its FTP Clients should be configured the same way.
What is the "IIS Workaround" checkbox on the FTP Uploader configuration dialog?
This checkbox should be selected only if your system is using Microsoft IIS as its FTP server. This type of server does not allow files to be overwritten - they must be re-named and deleted before a newer file with the same name may be uploaded. Checking this box instructs the FTP Uploader to issue these additional commands.
Why do I sometimes see a message saying "Another Uploader May Be Running" when my DIADvisor host re-starts? What do I do?
Running more than one Uploader to the same FTP site at the same time will seriously corrupt the data being downloaded by clients. To be absolutely certain that two instances of the Uploader are not running on the same machine, a 5 minute waiting period is imposed before an uploader can restart automatically. If you are re-booting the machine or are otherwise absolutely sure that no other instance of the Uploader is running, click the "Retry" button and the Uploader will start normally. If you click "Cancel" the Uploader will NOT start!
Why does the FTP Uploader need read permissions on the FTP site?
Actually, the FTP Uploader must have full permissions to the FTP site because it may need to read files to determine if another uploader is in use or how far back in time to go to start building data files. It also must be able to overwrite files and delete them as they become obsolete.
