Independent Client Functionality
The Independent Client in V2 connects to a single host database, like other clients. There is an option to bring over the full host configuration, which allows the user to use the host configuration as a starting point for customization.
Because the Independent Client is connected to a single data source for validated data, its configuration needs to be synchronized to the host in some domains. These are automatically synched using the network table flags as in the freedom-challenged clients.
Elements which are linked to the host are:
- Basic geography, including origin, reference latitude, scale, default hemispheres, and although not geographic, the default units (English or Metric). This allows coordinates to be exchanged between host and client.
- Site Definitions - Although a site or sensor can be created on the independent client, there is no data source for it and it will be wiped out by the next update to site or sensor def from the host. All SiteDef fields are mirrored on the client.
- Sensors – are defined only on the host, and the record is mirrored on the client. Several fields maintained in the sensordef table are not transferred to permit client independence: these are group, alarms, notify, suspect, and timeout. In Service switching has no meaning on the client, since it is effected in validation.
- Sensor conversion data – is mirrored on the client and is maintained for the convenience of the client user, but is not used locally. This includes rating tables and Equation Defs.
- Time – is driven by the host clock and advances only on each connect.
- Functions which can be performed on the Independent Client and not changed by the host are:
- Interval setting
- Overlay grid, size, location and computation
- Subbasin definition, MAP production and display
- Group Definition
- Alarm and Notification definitions
- Alarm checking and notification checking at all 3 levels (system, sensor, and alarm)
- Map definition
- Place names mapping
The above are in addition to the display prerogatives of the fully host-directed (but equally happy) client variety.
